The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Hekk kif tħabbar il-konfinament, it-toroq tbattlu. Dak li huwa impressjonanti huwa s-silenzju. Spiċċa l-ġiri lejn ix-xogħol, l-ivvjaġġar barra l-pajjiż għal laqgħa ta’ sagħtejn, il-ħornijiet tat-traffiku fil-belt, il-karozza tal-linja li ma tasal qatt. Bħal ħafna oħrajn ikkonformajna ma’ dan il-konfinament sfurzat, u għamilna l-almu tagħna biex ngħixu b’dan il-mod ġdid ta’ ħajja. Filwaqt li jien faċilment stajt naħdem mid-dar, żewġi ma setax jagħmel dan, għax xogħolu u l-infrastrutturi la kienu u lanqas huma lesti għal dan. Dan in-nuqqas ta’ adattament madakollu kissritlu l-iljieli bil-ħsibijiet minħabba l-ammont ta’ assentiżmu tal-impjegati tiegħu. Il-biżgħa nfirxet malajr daqs kemm infirex il-virus stess.
Issa li għaddiet l-ewwel mewġa, nistaqsi lili nnifsi: f’liema stat fiżiku, soċjali u ekonomiku se noħorġu minn din il-kriżi? Filwaqt li l-pandemija wasslet biex jiġi prijoritizzat l-essenzjali u jkun hemm sensibilizzazzjoni ekoloġika, din kienet ix-xhieda wkoll ta’ mġiba individwali fil-livell nazzjonali u globali. Ħadd fil-Lussemburgu ma emmen li l-fruntieri kienu se jerġgħu jingħalqu. Ix-xogħol transkonfinali huwa essenzjali fil-Gran Dukat u r-restrizzjoni fil-moviment liberu tal-persuni ġiegħlna nibżgħu li kien se jkun hemm nuqqas ta’ ħaddiema fil-kura tas-saħħa, fost affarijiet oħra.
Din il-kriżi hija wkoll opportunità biex inħarsu lejn il-vulnerabbiltà tagħna. Qegħdin niskopru li niddependu mhux biss mill-ħaddiema fil-kura tas-saħħa, iżda wkoll mill-imġiba ta’ ħaddieħor.
L-irkupru ekonomiku se jinkiseb flimkien. Għandna nevitaw in-nazzjonaliżmu u l-kollass tal-ekonomiji, filwaqt li xi pajjiżi jiddiskutu n-nazzjonalizzazzjoni tal-katini tal-valur, f’isem ir-reżiljenza. Fil-livell Ewropew għandha titqies aktar awtonomija fir-rigward tal-globalizzazzjoni. B’din il-kriżi nistgħu ngħidu li għandna l-opportunità nosserva mument ta’ waqfien, li għandu jgħinna nirriflettu fuqna stess.
