The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

H βιώσιμη ανταγωνιστικότητα ακούγεται ενδεχομένως σαν το τελευταίο πιασάρικο σύνθημα των Βρυξελλών. Ωστόσο, αυτό απέχει πολύ από την αλήθεια. Η ανταγωνιστικότητα θεωρείται γενικά ως η ναυαρχίδα των εργοδοτών, που υποστηρίζουν ένα ευνοϊκό επιχειρηματικό περιβάλλον στο οποίο οι επιχειρήσεις μπορούν να ευδοκιμήσουν. Είναι αυτονόητο ότι οι ευημερούσες επιχειρήσεις αποτελούν στόχο που συμμερίζονται σε μεγάλο βαθμό και οι εργαζόμενοι.
Πού εισέρχεται συνεπώς το «βιώσιμο»; Ένα ανταγωνιστικό πλεονέκτημα μπορεί να επιτευχθεί με πολλούς διαφορετικούς τρόπους. Μια επιχείρηση μπορεί να είναι πιο αποδοτική, να καινοτομεί στις μεθόδους παραγωγής της, να συμβάλλει στην ανάπτυξη καλύτερης τεχνολογίας, να επιμορφώνει και να βελτιώνει τις συνθήκες του προσωπικού. Ή, μπορεί να νικήσει τους ανταγωνιστές της εκμεταλλευόμενη κενά στη νομοθεσία, ρυπαίνοντας το περιβάλλον ή αναζητώντας τρόπους για να πληρώσει λιγότερο τους εργαζομένους της — ίσως έχετε ακούσει για την οικονομία των πλατφορμών.
Η βιώσιμη ανταγωνιστικότητα αποτελεί συνεπώς βασική προτεραιότητα για τους εργαζομένους και τους πολίτες εν γένει, καθώς διασφαλίζει ότι η ανταγωνιστικότητα είναι μια διαδικασία που βελτιώνει την κοινωνία και όχι ένας ανταγωνισμός προς τα κάτω. Είναι καλύτερη για όλους μακροπρόθεσμα, καθώς όλοι έχουν —μέχρι στιγμής— ανάγκη έναν πλανήτη. Και είναι προς το συμφέρον και των εργοδοτών: όχι μόνο τους βοηθά να έχουν περιβαλλοντική και κοινωνική σταθερότητα, αλλά ενθαρρύνει επίσης τον θεμιτό ανταγωνισμό και σέβεται το έργο των έντιμων εταιρειών.
