The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

Už druhý rok EHSV spolupracuje s Európskym parlamentom a pripája sa k iniciatíve Európsky týždeň rodovej rovnosti. Cieľom je začleňovať rodové hľadisko do diskusií ako súčasť našej bežnej práce.
EHSV sa rozhodol zorganizovať počas schôdzí svojich sekcií a poradnej komisie pre priemyselné zmeny (CCMI) v októbri a novembri viacero podujatí. Okrem toho na októbrovom plenárnom zasadnutí, práve počas Európskeho týždňa rodovej rovnosti, usporiada diskusiu s poslankyňou a podpredsedníčkou EP Evelyn Regner, ktorá je zodpovedná za tento projekt v Európskom parlamente.
EHSV sa stotožňuje s touto iniciatívou a ja dúfam, že v nej budeme môcť pokračovať tak dlho, ako je potrebné, aby sme upozornili na to, že aj keď napredujeme smerom k skutočnej rovnosti medzi mužmi a ženami, pokrok nie je ani dosť rýchly, ani konsolidovaný. Naša spoločnosť sa otvorene stavia proti nerovnosti, diskriminácii a násiliu páchanému na ženách. Väčšina ľudí práva žien vedome a verejne obhajuje a rešpektuje. Určité postoje a naratívy sú však na nešťastie tak hlboko zakorenené, že ich niektorí ľudia podvedome preberajú a šíria ďalej. Sú však aj takí, čo to robia náročky, aby zabránili spoločenskej zmene.
Kompetencie sekcií EHSV nám umožňujú vyzdvihnúť postavenie žien v rôznych kontextoch, od tých, kde najviac prevažujú muži, až po tie, kde majú ženy najväčšie zastúpenie. Rodová rovnosť nie je „ženská záležitosť“. Je to nevyhnutná podmienka na vybudovanie spravodlivej, odolnej a prosperujúcej spoločnosti. Preto je dôležité, aby ženy a muži kráčali touto cestou spolu, bok po boku, a preukazovali si vzájomnú úctu a podporu.
