The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

En utställning med den portugisiska konstnären Ana Carvalho på temat Afrika i Lissabon belyser den afrikanska kulturens närvaro och inflytande i Lissabon, medan den afrikanska konstnären José Pereira från Kap Verde genom utställningen Ubuntu slår ett slag för fredlig samexistens, acceptans av olikheter och solidaritet.
Den 2 mars invigde EESK den gemensamma fotoutställningen Afrika–EU vid ett online-evenemang i närvaro av Cillian Lohan, vice ordförande med ansvar för kommunikation, Carlos Trindade, ordförande för uppföljningskommittén AVS–EU, och de två fotograferna. Invigningen ägde rum i anslutning till sammanträdet i uppföljningskommittén AVS–EU, ett permanent organ som är en del av EESK:s sektion för yttre förbindelser.
Carlos Trindade menade att ”eftersom kulturen uttrycker delade värden och känslor i ett samhälle med gemensamma intressen är tanken med detta kulturevenemang att lyfta fram EESK:s starka engagemang för det kommande toppmötet mellan EU och Afrika samtidigt som de djupt rotade förbindelserna mellan de två kontinenterna lyfts fram. Det är också därför online-invigningen äger rum i anslutning till vårt sammanträde.”
De två fotoutställningarna är helt och hållet virtuella och är tillgängliga online den 1–31 mars 2021.
