The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

In de tentoonstelling Africa in Lisbon laat de Portugese fotografe Ana Carvalho zien hoe de aanwezigheid en invloed van de Afrikaanse cultuur in Lissabon de stad kleur hebben gegeven, terwijl haar Afrikaanse collega José Pereira, die in Kaapverdië woont, met zijn expositie Ubuntu de nadruk legt op een manier van vreedzame co-existentie, acceptatie van verschillen en solidariteit.
Deze gecombineerde Afrikaans-Europese fototentoonstelling werd op 2 maart jl. geopend in (virtuele) aanwezigheid van Cillian Lohan, vicevoorzitter voor Communicatie, Carlos Trindade, voorzitter van het follow-upcomité EU-ACS, en de twee fotografen. De opening vond plaats in het kader van een bijeenkomst van het follow-upcomité EU-ACS, een permanent orgaan dat deel uitmaakt van de afdeling Externe Betrekkingen van het EESC.
Trindade: “Omdat cultuur uitdrukking geeft aan de gedeelde waarden en voorkeuren van een gemeenschap met gezamenlijke belangen, wil het EESC met deze culturele activiteit duidelijk maken hoeveel belang het hecht aan de komende Top EU-Afrika en wil het tevens de aandacht vestigen op de diepgewortelde banden tussen beide continenten. Dat is ook de reden waarom we de onlineopening van deze tentoonstelling onderdeel van onze bijeenkomst hebben gemaakt.”
De fototentoonstelling is alleen online te zien van 1 tot en met 31 maart 2021.
