Odnosi med EU in njenimi južnimi sosedami so ena od naših prednostnih nalog. Naše delo pokriva najrazličnejša področja, kot so udeležba civilne družbe v političnem in civilnem dialogu, demokratični prehod, zaposlovanje mladih, trajnostni razvoj, mobilnost in priseljevanje, trgovina, energija iz obnovljivih virov in razvoj podjetij.

EESO ta vprašanja obravnava že od leta 1995. Po spremembah v regiji leta 2010 smo cilje ustrezno prilagodili, da bi:

  • podprli organizacije civilne družbe v državah v prehodu. Taka podpora je ciljno usmerjena, zlasti na sindikate in organizacije delodajalcev ter združenja žensk, mladih in kmetov;
  • vzdrževali dvostranske odnose z nacionalnimi ekonomsko-socialnimi sveti v regiji ter si prizadevali za ustvarjanje pogojev za vključitev civilne družbe v politični dialog v južnih partnerskih državah;
  • izdali mnenja in skupna poročila o ključnih političnih izzivih, s katerimi se srečuje regija;
  • organizirali redne sestanke z evropskimi institucijami in mednarodnimi organizacijami, na katerih bi razpravljali o politikah, ki zadevajo civilno družbo po vsej regiji;
  • organizirali letno srečanje na vrhu za ekonomsko-socialne svete in podobne institucije, na katerem bi za oblikovalce politike iz nacionalnih vlad in EU pripravili ključna priporočila o politiki v zvezi z glavnimi izzivi regije.
  • In an opinion adopted at the September plenary session, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) identifies that fostering entrepreneurship and quality job creation in the Mediterranean region is the answer to high unemployment rates. Leveraging the potential of women and young people can promote inclusive, resilient growth.

  • At its September plenary session, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted an opinion on the New Pact for the Mediterranean, a month ahead of its official launch by the European Commission. The Committee calls for bottom-up processes ensuring that the Pact has a direct, positive impact on all people, especially on youth.

    On 17 October the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) held a conference on the geopolitics of energy strategies in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Jointly organised with the Italian National Council for Economics and Labour (CNEL) in Rome, the conference underlined the potential of the EU's Southern Neighbourhood countries as producers of green hydrogen, especially now in light of the war in Ukraine. The area can become a key player in the energy sector to the benefit of all involved stakeholders.

    The annual Euro-Mediterranean Summit of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions provides civil society organisations (CSOs) from the UfM Member States with a platform to debate common challenges and opportunities and to exchange best practices.

  • Joint EESC and ESC of Spain

    The EESC and the Spanish Economic and Social Council (CES) are organising this joint conference in the context of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, dedicated to "The impact of the climate crisis on migration flows in the Mediterranean region". This event will contribute to the EESC's mandate to establish and reinforce a Euro-Mediterranean network of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions. It will provide CSOs with an opportunity to meet, exchange best practices and discuss an issue of importance
    throughout the Mediterranean region.

    The European Union (EU) and Morocco are bound by an association agreement signed in 1996, which entered into force in 2000. In October 2008, Morocco was granted an "Advanced Status" by the EU.

    The Euro-Mediterranean Summit of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions aims at promoting greater understanding of the main issues affecting organised civil society in the Mediterranean region and discussing the common challenges they face.
