The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Na 51. schôdzi monitorovacieho výboru Západný Balkán sa do centra pozornosti dostalo riešenie konfliktov a normalizácia vzťahov medzi Kosovom* a Srbskom. Schôdzi predsedal Ionuţ Sibian a zúčastnili sa na nej poprední rečníci z radov úradníkov EÚ, expertov zo západného Balkánu, ako aj zástupcovia občianskej spoločnosti z miestnych komunít. Všetci sa zhodli na tom, že dialóg sprostredkovaný EÚ je jedinou cestou vpred.
Osobitný zástupca EÚ pre dialóg medzi Belehradom a Prištinou a pre iné regionálne otázky západného Balkánu Miroslav Lajčák poskytol prehľad o dialógu, ktorý sprostredkúva EÚ, a súvisiacich výzvach. Vyjadril poľutovanie nad tým, že diskusia sa musí opäť sústrediť na riešenie konfliktov a nie na dokončenie normalizačného procesu.
Marko Prelec z krízovej skupiny uviedol, že v súčasnosti je nereálne uzavrieť komplexnú dohodu medzi Kosovom a Srbskom, pretože akákoľvek takáto dohoda by obsahovala ustanovenie o vzájomnom uznaní.
Zástupca z Centra pre analýzu európskej politiky (CEPA) Leon Hartwell vyjadril poľutovanie nad nedostatkom politickej vôle implementovať 30 existujúcich dohôd medzi Kosovom a Srbskom sprostredkovaných EÚ.
Branislav Staníček z Výskumnej služby Európskeho parlamentu (EPRS) podčiarkol význam transatlantickej spolupráce pre úspech dialógu o normalizácii. Zástupcovia miestnych organizácií občianskej spoločnosti z Belehradu, Prištiny a Severnej Mitrovice upozornili na to, že je dôležité vytvoriť podmienky pre odstránenie etnického rozdelenia komunít.
