Rialaítear an trádáil idirnáisiúnta le sraith chasta de rialacha domhanda arna gcomhaontú faoi chomhaontuithe na hEagraíochta Domhanda Trádála agus faoi chomhaontuithe déthaobhacha agus iltaobhacha. Is ag méadú de réir a chéile atá tionchar na gcomhaontuithe saorthrádála ar chearta na saoránach. Faoi Chonradh Liospóin, ní mór beartas trádála an Aontas Eorpaigh a chur i gcrích faoi chuimsiú phrionsabail agus chuspóirí ghníomhaíocht sheachtrach an Aontais, lena n-áirítear an smacht reachta, cearta an duine agus forbairt inbhuanaithe a chur chun cinn.

Creidimid gur cheart an treocht seo a bheith ina treoirphrionsabal i dtaca le caibidlíocht trádála an Aontais agus le caidreamh trádála. Tá breisluach dháiríre ag baint leis an gcaoi a ndéanann CESE iarracht ar sheasaimh agus tuairimí lucht gnó, oibrithe, gairmithe, feirmeoirí, tomhaltóirí agus geallsealbhóirí tábhachtacha eile a thabhairt le chéile. Táimid in ann tuairimí na sochaí sibhialta agus na ngrúpaí sainleasa a chur in iúl go héifeachtúil do lucht ceaptha beartas idirnáisiúnta le linn caibidlíochta agus le linn cur chun feidhme comhaontuithe trádála. Chuireamar Coiste Leantach um Thrádáil Idirnáisiúnta ar bun chun a chinntiú go mbeadh tionchar ag an tsochaí shibhialta ar fhorbairt bheartas trádála an Aontais Eorpaigh. Ina cheann sin, táimid i mbun na Grúpaí Comhairleacha Baile a bhainistiú, a bunaíodh faoi na caibidlí maidir le trádáil agus forbairt inbhuanaithe atá sa "ghlúin nua" de chomhaontuithe trádála an Aontais Eorpaigh. Is iad na grúpaí sin, atá comhdhéanta d'ionadaithe ón tsochaí shibhialta (ón taobh istigh de CESE agus ón taobh amuigh), atá freagrach as fadhbanna a bhaineann le trádáil agus forbairt inbhuanaithe a aithint nuair a bhíonn comhaontú trádála á chur chun feidhme.

    New mandate, new challenge - reaffirming TSD amid economic security ambitions

    The third edition of the EESC Civil Society Forum on Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) took place on Thursday, 5 December, from 13:45 to 17:30 at the EESC premises in Brussels. Under the theme "New mandate, new challenge: reaffirming TSD amid economic security ambitions," this year's Forum focused on ensuring that the EU's economic security agenda is consistent with and delivers for TSD. As we welcome a new EU Commission, this is the moment to influence policy direction and ensure that trade policy fosters resilience and security alongside long-term development and social justice for all partners. 

  • EU-Central America joint meeting of civil society Advisory Groups and Civil Society Dialogue Forum

    Domestic Advisory Groups of the EU and six Central American countries held their Joint Meeting in Brussels on 17-18 June. The DAGs took part in a Workshop focused on two pertinent topics: Corporative Sustainability Due Diligence and the EU Deforestation Directive. During the Joint Meeting the DAGs discussed their role and functioning, in particular in view of the full application of the Association Agreement. The delegates exchanged good practices and debated the consequences of the full application of the AA for civil society sensu largo and on the work of the DAGs. Important part of the discussion was dedicated to the space for democracy and the role of civil society and advisory groups in strengthening democracy and rights.

    The DAGs adopted the Joint Declaration.

  • 2024 All DAGs Meeting

    The 4th annual All DAGs meeting took place on Monday 18 April 2024 09:00-13:00 at the EESC premises in JDE62.
    This was the first All DAGs meeting of this DAG mandate which welcomed the newer DAG Members, as well as more experienced ones. It was a unique opportunity to gather all EU DAG Members and EU institutions as one TSD community, to openly exchange ideas, challenges, and aspirations. The meeting featured, among others, CTEO Denis Redonnet and DDG Maria Martin-Prat, DG Trade.

  • EU-Japan DAG Workshop: 'Promoting human rights and environmental due diligence together' + Joint Dialogue with Civil Society in Tokyo

    The EU-Japan DAG hosted a workshop: "Promoting human rights and environmental due diligence together" on 9 April 2024 following a Joint Dialogue with Civil Society in Tokyo on 8 April. The workshop's objective was to foster dialogue between EU and Japan civil society representatives, focusing on best practices and a solution-oriented approach in an area of importance to the implementation of the TSD-chapter of the EU-Japan EPA. Human rights and environmental due diligence are topics of common interest, as the EU and Japan share values and want to secure resilient supply chains so as to do business in a sustainable way.

  • 11th EU-Chile Joint Consultative Committee

    During the 11th meeting of the EU-Chile JCC, held physically in Santiago de Chile, the members discussed ways to strengthen our bilateral partnership in the rapidly evolving global political and economic circumstances. The aim was to "put people first", underlining the role of the civil society in promoting inclusive growth and tackling common challenges driven by economic shocks, climate change, instability, various threats to democracy and multilateral order. The JCC also exchanged views on the progress of the constitutional reform in Chile. Moreover, in view of the changes of the legal framework resulting from the modernization of the EU-Chile Association Agreement, participants discussed proposals concerning the role of the civil society and the status of the JCC following the transition.

    The JCC approved the Joint Declaration.
