Το μέλλον των μεταφορών στην ΕΕ πρέπει να είναι βιώσιμο, έξυπνο και με κοινωνικό πρόσημο: αυτή είναι η πρόκληση που αντιμετωπίζει ένας τομέας ο οποίος υπέστη ριζικές αλλαγές τα τελευταία χρόνια, ενώ παράλληλα η πανδημία COVID-19 τον έπληξε καίρια. Στη συζήτηση σχετικά με τη στρατηγική μεταφορών της Επιτροπής, που έγινε κατά τη σύνοδο ολομέλειας στις 28 Απριλίου 2021, η Πρόεδρος της ΕΟΚΕ Christa Schweng επισήμανε ότι η Ευρώπη χρειάζεται ένα όραμα για τη μετά-COVID-19 Ευρώπη· στον τομέα των μεταφορών, το όραμα αυτό πρέπει να εμπεριέχει τη βιώσιμη, έξυπνη και ανθεκτική κινητικότητα.
Στο ίδιο μήκος κύματος κινήθηκε και η Adina Vălean, Ευρωπαία Επίτροπος για τις Μεταφορές, η οποία τόνισε ότι η πανδημία δεν άλλαξε το γενικό όραμα της Επιτροπής για τις μεταφορές: το όραμα αυτό παραμένει άρρηκτα συνδεδεμένο με την Πράσινη Συμφωνία της ΕΕ και βασίζεται στους πυλώνες απεξάρτησης από τον άνθρακα και ψηφιοποίησης.
Γενικά, η ΕΟΚΕ υποστηρίζει τη γενική προσέγγιση για ευθυγράμμιση της βιώσιμης και έξυπνης στρατηγικής κινητικότητας της Επιτροπής με τους στόχους της Ευρωπαϊκής Πράσινης Συμφωνίας. Εντούτοις, στη γνωμοδότηση που καταρτίστηκε από τους Stefan Back και Tanja Buzek και εγκρίθηκε στις 27 Απριλίου 2021, τίθεται το ερώτημα εάν η προσέγγιση επιτυγχάνει τη σωστή ισορροπία μεταξύ των τεχνικών μέτρων και των μέτρων της πολιτικής μεταφορών.
Πολλά από τα μέτρα που προτείνονται όσον αφορά τη βιωσιμότητα και την ψηφιοποίηση επηρεάζουν σε μεγάλο βαθμό την ενιαία αγορά και τους εργαζόμενους στον κλάδο των μεταφορών. Δυστυχώς, η στρατηγική δεν αποδίδει αρκετή προσοχή σε αυτές τις πτυχές και αυτό θα μπορούσε να υπονομεύσει την επιτυχή εφαρμογή της. Επιπλέον, ο βιώσιμος και ψηφιακός μετασχηματισμός των μεταφορών της ΕΕ θα είναι εφικτός μόνο εάν αυξηθεί η ανταγωνιστικότητα του τομέα στο σύνολό του και της σχετικής βιομηχανικής βάσης της ΕΕ. (mp)
