The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Eiropas Savienībā transportam turpmāk ir jābūt ilgtspējīgam, sociālam un viedam: tas ir uzdevums nozarei, kurā pēdējos gados notikušas būtiskas pārmaiņas un kuru turklāt smagi skārusi Covid-19 pandēmija. 2021. gada 28. aprīlī plenārsesijā notikušajās debatēs par Komisijas ierosināto jauno transporta stratēģiju EESK priekšsēdētāja Christa Schweng norādīja, ka Eiropai jādomā par to, kāda tā būs pēc Covid-19 pandēmijas. Transporta jomā tas nozīmē virzību uz ilgtspējīgu, viedu un noturīgu mobilitāti.
Līdzīgu viedokli pauda Eiropas Savienības transporta komisāre Adina Vălean, kura uzsvēra, ka pandēmija nav mainījusi Komisijas vispārējo transporta vīziju, kas cieši saistīta ar ES zaļo kursu un balstās uz tādiem pīlāriem kā dekarbonizācija un digitalizācija.
EESK kopumā atbalsta vispārējo pieeju, proti, Komisijas ierosinātās Ilgtspējīgas un viedas mobilitātes stratēģijas saskaņošanu ar ES zaļā kursa mērķiem. Taču atzinumā, ko izstrādāja Stefan Back un Tanja Buzek un kas tika pieņemts 2021. gada 27. aprīlī, tā pauž šaubas par to, vai šāda pieeja nodrošina atbilstošu līdzsvaru starp tehniskajiem pasākumiem un transporta politikas pasākumiem.
Daudzi pasākumi, kas ierosināti saistībā ar ilgtspēju un digitalizāciju, plaši ietekmē vienoto tirgu un transporta jomas darba ņēmējus. Diemžēl stratēģijā šiem aspektiem nav pievērsta pietiekama uzmanība, un tas varētu apdraudēt tās sekmīgu īstenošanu. Turklāt ES transporta ilgtspējīga un digitāla pārveide būs iespējama tikai tad, ja nozare kopumā un ar to saistītā ES rūpniecības bāze kļūs konkurētspējīgāka. (mp)
