The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Piiriülesed energiavood on ELi eri liikmesriikide elektri ja gaasiga varustamisel otsustava tähtsusega. See tähendab, et energiataristut tuleb ajakohastada naaberriikide võrkudevaheliste ühenduste kaudu, et suurendada liidu kestliku energia võimsust.
Euroopa Liidu Nõukogu eesistujariigi Belgia taotlusel koostatud arvamuses, mis võeti vastu täiskogu 18. jaanuari 2024. aasta istungil, esitas komitee selles küsimuses selge sõnumi.
EL peaks pöörama erilist tähelepanu võrgu arendamisele ning tegema ulatusikke investeeringuid, et stimuleerida Euroopa majandust ning luua kvaliteetseid ja keskkonda säästvaid töökohti.
„Meie komitees oleme seisukohal, et rohepöörde ja strateegilise energiasõltumatuse saavutamiseks on äärmiselt oluline teha meie energiasüsteemis struktuurilisi muudatusi,“ ütles komitee president Oliver Röpke arvamuse vastuvõtmisele eelnenud arutelus.
Belgia energeetikaminister Tinne Van der Straeten rõhutas, et kliimakaitse vajadusest tulenev üleminek puhtale energiale on nüüd majanduse ja julgeoleku seisukohalt hädavajalik, ning et võrkudevahelised ühendused loovad paindlikuma süsteemi, mis aitaks tasakaalustada geograafilisi erinevusi tuule- ja päikeseenergia tootmises.
„Euroopa taastuvenergia eesmärgid ületavad praegu taristu osas tehtud plaane, mistõttu vajame seda üleeuroopalist taristut kiiresti. Ja see peab olema kulutõhus, turvaline, kestlik ja paindlik,“ märkis Van der Straeten. (mp)
