The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Přeshraniční toky energie hrají klíčovou roli při zásobování různých členských států EU elektřinou a plynem. To znamená, že má-li být navýšena kapacita Unie v oblasti udržitelné energie, je nutno rozšířit energetickou infrastrukturu prostřednictvím propojovacího vedení mezi sousedícími zeměmi.
EHSV se ve svém stanovisku, které si vyžádalo belgické předsednictví Rady EU a jež bylo přijato na plenárním zasedání dne 18. ledna 2024, k této otázce vyjádřil jednoznačně.
EU by měla věnovat zvláštní pozornost rozvoji sítě a jsou rovněž zapotřebí rozsáhlé investice, které by povzbudily evropské hospodářství a napomohly vytváření kvalitních pracovních míst, při němž se bere ohled na životní prostředí.
„V EHSV se domníváme, že chceme-li úspěšně provést ekologickou transformaci a dosáhnout strategické energetické autonomie, je naprosto zásadní uskutečnit strukturální změny v našem energetickém systému,“ uvedl v průběhu debaty uspořádané v souvislosti s přijetím stanoviska předseda Výboru Oliver Röpke.
Belgická ministryně energetiky Tinne Van der Straeten zdůraznila, že přechod na čistou energii, který se stal nutností v důsledku klimatických faktorů, je nyní nezbytný i z ekonomických a bezpečnostních důvodů a že díky propojením vzniká flexibilnější systém, který je schopen vyvažovat rozdíly ve výrobě větrné a solární energie dané zeměpisnou polohou.
„Ambice Evropy, co se týče energie z obnovitelných zdrojů, v současné době přesahují její plány v oblasti infrastruktury, takže transevropskou infrastrukturu potřebujeme rychle. A musí být nákladově efektivní, bezpečná, udržitelná a flexibilní,“ dodala. (mp)
