The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Prekogranični tokovi energije ključni su za opskrbu više država članica EU-a električnom energijom i plinom. To znači da se energetska infrastruktura mora nadograditi spojnim vodovima između susjednih zemalja kako bi se povećao kapacitet Unije za održivu energiju.
U mišljenju koje je zatražilo belgijsko predsjedništvo Vijeća EU-a, usvojenom na plenarnom zasjedanju 18. siječnja 2024., EGSO je o tom pitanju poslao jasnu poruku.
EU bi posebnu pozornost trebao posvetiti razvoju mreža, a potrebna su i znatna ulaganja da bi se poticao rast europskog gospodarstva i otvarala visokokvalitetna i ekološki prihvatljiva radna mjesta.
„U EGSO-u vjerujemo da je za postizanje zelene tranzicije i strateške energetske autonomije od ključne važnosti provesti strukturnu promjenu našeg energetskog sustava”, izjavio je predsjednik EGSO-a Oliver Röpke tijekom rasprave održane prilikom usvajanja mišljenja.
Belgijska ministrica energetike Tinne Van der Straeten naglasila je da je prelazak na čistu energiju, koji je započet zbog klimatskih potreba, sada s gospodarskog i sigurnosnog aspekta neophodan i da međupovezanost stvara fleksibilniji sustav kojim bi se mogle uravnotežiti geografske razlike u proizvodnji energije vjetra i solarne energije.
„Kada je riječ o energiji iz obnovljivih izvora, ambicije Europe trenutačno premašuju njezine planove u pogledu infrastrukture, stoga brzo trebamo transeuropsku infrastrukturu koja mora biti troškovno učinkovita, sigurna, održiva i fleksibilna”, izjavila je. (mp)
