The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Το δημοσιονομικό πλαίσιο της ΕΕ πρέπει να αναθεωρηθεί. Αυτό πρέπει να γίνει όχι μόνο για τη μεσοπρόθεσμη σταθεροποίηση της οικονομίας, αλλά και για τη χρηματοδότηση του κοινωνικοοικολογικού μετασχηματισμού της οικονομίας μας και την εξασφάλιση πλήρους απασχόλησης, ποιοτικών θέσεων εργασίας και δίκαιων μεταβάσεων. Η γνωμοδότηση που αταρτίστηκε από τη Dominika Biegon και εγκρίθηκε από την Ολομέλεια κατά τη σύνοδο του Οκτωβρίου είναι σαφής: η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή οφείλει να συνεχίσει με την αναθεώρηση του πλαισίου οικονομικής διακυβέρνησης της ΕΕ.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της συζήτησης, η κ. Biegon δήλωσε: «Η ΕΟΚΕ τάσσεται υπέρ ρεαλιστικών λύσεων για το μέλλον του δημοσιονομικού πλαισίου της ΕΕ: η γνωμοδότησή μας καταδεικνύει πώς μπορούν να ξεπεραστούν οι ιδεολογικές διαφορές στη συζήτηση για το δημόσιο χρέος. Οι δημοσιονομικοί κανόνες της ΕΕ μπορούν να βελτιωθούν σημαντικά χωρίς να τροποποιηθούν οι Συνθήκες της ΕΕ. Μπορούμε να θέσουμε τέλος στη χρόνια έλλειψη δημόσιων επενδύσεων και να δώσουμε στα κράτη μέλη μεγαλύτερα περιθώρια για την κατάλληλη αντιμετώπιση οικονομικών υφέσεων στο μέλλον χωρίς να εκτεθεί σε κίνδυνο η δημοσιονομική βιωσιμότητα. Τα θεσμικά όργανα της ΕΕ θα πρέπει να προτείνουν, χωρίς χρονοτριβή, μεταρρυθμίσεις, ώστε να προετοιμάσουν το έδαφος για βιώσιμη ανάκαμψη και δίκαιη μετάβαση.»
Οι οργανώσεις της κοινωνίας των πολιτών πρέπει επίσης να συμμετέχουν περισσότερο στο Ευρωπαϊκό Εξάμηνο, τόσο σε εθνικό όσο και σε ενωσιακό επίπεδο. Η αρχή της εταιρικής σχέσης, η οποία εδώ και καιρό αποτελεί παράδοση στη διακυβέρνηση των Ευρωπαϊκών Διαρθρωτικών και Επενδυτικών Ταμείων, θα πρέπει να λειτουργήσει ως πρότυπο για την ουσιαστική συμμετοχή της κοινωνίας των πολιτών.
