EHSV se aktivně angažuje v procesu rozšíření EU a vypracoval dvojí přístup (regionální a dvoustranný) ke svým vztahům s organizacemi občanské společnosti v zemích procesu rozšíření.

Pokud jde o regionální přístup, je hlavním nástrojem pro koordinaci činností EHSV v tomto regionu monitorovací výbor Západní Balkán, což je stálý interní orgán EHSV. Fórum občanské společnosti zemí západního Balkánu se koná každé dva roky a je součástí činností, které vykonává monitorovací výbor.

EHSV spolupracuje se zeměmi západního Balkánu a Tureckem také na dvoustranném základě. Na základě dohody o přidružení mezi těmito zeměmi a EU vytvořil EHSV tři společné orgány se zástupci občanské společnosti Turecka, Černé Hory a Srbska, aby organizace občanské společnosti zapojil do předvstupního procesu a procesu přistoupení. Každý orgán se skládá ze stejného počtu členů EHSV a partnerské země a schází se dvakrát ročně.

EHSV udržuje pravidelné kontakty a organizuje společné činnosti s organizacemi občanské společnosti v zemích procesu rozšíření, s jejichž zástupci nebyl dosud vytvořen žádný společný orgán.

Činnost společných orgánů doplňuje formulace stanovisek EHSV k předvstupnímu procesu a procesu přistoupení jednotlivých zemí, jakož i k otázkám s významem pro daný region.

  • The EU-Montenegro Joint Consultative Committee: Montenegro is advancing in the EU accession path

    The 18th meeting of the EU-Montenegro Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), which took place in Podgorica today, sent a clear message to the EU institutions, that Montenegro is firmly committed to becoming the 28th member by 2028. The JCC members encouraged their organisations, the national authorities and the EU institutions to spare no efforts to accomplish the rule of law interim benchmarks. Obtaining the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR) for the rule of law by June, will be a turning point in the EU accession process, enabling provisional closing of other chapters.

    The European Council of December 2023 discussed the EU enlargement policy, including the stabilisation and association process and next steps in this respect. The enlargement policy will be one of the top priorities for the next coming years. One of the most important aspects of the enlargement process will be the cohesion policy and the structural funds.

    The need for a structural policy to be applied following enlargement is justified both by the external necessity of reducing the gap between the applicant countries and the EU average and by the internal necessity of combating increasing disparities amongst and within accession countries.

  • Enlargement: Representatives from EU candidate countries will now join the work of the EESC

    Today, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) officially launched its initiative to welcome civil society representatives from EU candidate countries. A total of 131 'Enlargement Candidate Members' (ECM) were selected to make up  the pool of civil society experts who will be participating in the Committee's work, thus making the EESC the first institution to open its doors to EU candidate countries. The initiative, a political priority of EESC President Oliver Röpke, sets new standards for involving candidate countries in EU activities, facilitating their progressive and tangible integration into the EU.

    The EESC underlines that youth participation mechanisms need to be transparent and that the interests and concerns of young people need to be considered at each stage of the policy-making cycle. It proposes that guidelines are set up to support the monitoring and dissemination of the EUYD (EU Youth Dialogue) outcomes and impact and that an online repository be set up where collected documents would be made available. It calls on the Commission and the Member States to support long-term, sustainable and well-functioning management of the EUYD, including the establishment of institutional memory and capacity building processes.
