The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

skupina Zaměstnavatelé v EHSV
Vytvořením evropského jednotného trhu vznikl prostor, v němž mohou podniky díky harmonizaci a vzájemnému uznávání norem prodávat své výrobky více než 450 milionům lidí. Realizují na něm 61 % svých obchodních transakcí v rámci EU, a vnitřní trh tak má zcela zásadní význam pro hospodářskou prosperitu Evropy, což přináší prospěch evropským občanům, spotřebitelům, pracovníkům i podnikům. Podle odhadů Evropské komise se tento trh 25 % podílí na hrubém domácím produktu EU.
S ohledem na nejnovější vývoj v oblastech, jako je například digitální transformace a přechod na udržitelnější hospodářství s nižšími emisemi uhlíku, a také na měnící se potřeby spotřebitelů, zaměstnanců a podniků a nové geopolitické podmínky je však třeba provést na tomto trhu opět určité úpravy.
Má-li jednotný trh i nadále úspěšně fungovat, bude nutné vylepšit řadu aspektů, mj. co se týče evropské energetické a průmyslové politiky, energetické unie, bankovní unie, příznivějšího rámce pro velké i malé podniky, rozsáhlejší podpory evropského projektu ze strany veřejnosti, účinnějšího poskytování veřejných služeb a lepší infrastruktury v oblasti informačních technologií, energetiky a dopravy.
V první polovině roku 2024 by měly být zveřejněny dvě stěžejní zprávy, jejichž vypracováním byli pověřeni bývalí italští premiéři Enrico Letta (zpráva o budoucnosti jednotného trhu) a Mario Draghi (zpráva o budoucnosti evropské konkurenceschopnosti). Skupina Zaměstnavatelé v EHSV se proto rozhodla shrnout své hlavní návrhy ohledně úspěšné budoucnosti vnitřního trhu EU ve stručném dokumentu s názvem „Jednotný evropský trh nové generace“.
