The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Откакто е създаден европейският единен пазар, хармонизацията и взаимното признаване на стандартите дават възможност на предприятията да продават своите продукти на пазар от над 450 милиона души. На това се дължат 61 % от търговията на предприятията в рамките на ЕС и това е в основата на икономическия просперитет на Европа, като по този начин е от полза за нейните граждани, потребители, работници и дружества. По оценки на Европейската комисия 25 % от брутния вътрешен продукт на ЕС се генерира от вътрешния пазар.
Новите развития обаче, като например цифровата трансформация и преходът към по-устойчиво икономика с по-нисък въглероден интензитет изискват нови корекции, също като променящите се нужди на потребителите, служителите и дружествата и новите геополитически условия.
Успешното продължаване на единния пазар изисква подобрения в няколко области, включително европейската енергийна и промишлена политика, енергийния съюз, банковия съюз, по-благоприятна рамка за големите и малките предприятия и по-голяма обществена подкрепа за европейския проект, по-ефективни обществени услуги и подобрена инфраструктура за информационните технологии, енергетиката и транспорта.
След като през първата половина на 2024 г. бяха публикувани два ключови доклада на бившите италиански министър-председатели Енрико Лета („Бъдещето на единния пазар“) и Марио Драги (относно бъдещето на европейската конкурентоспособност), група „Работодатели“ на ЕИСК обобщи основните си послания за успешното бъдеще на вътрешния пазар на ЕС в кратък документ, озаглавен „Единният пазар на ЕС: следващото поколение“.
