On 10 May, candidates from the main parties running for the European Parliament (EP) elections took part in a round table debate organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Madrid. They were in favour of initiating a reform of the EU institutions with the aim, amongst other things, of enabling organised civil society to play a greater role in the building of Europe.

Young Europeans think that belonging to the EU benefits them directly and are keen to learn other languages, explore other cultures, and have friends of other EU nationalities. These are just the first results of a study on "Youngsters and the EU - Perceptions, Knowledge and Expectations", which the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and its Diversity Europe Group presented at a major event in Brussels on 15 May 2019.

Verplichte lessen over Europees beleid, zodat burgers met kennis van zaken naar de stembus trekken, behaalde de meeste stemmen tijdens de editie 2019 van “Jouw Europa, jouw mening” (YEYS), het jongerenevenement dat het Europees Economisch en Sociaal Comité (EESC) op 21 en 22 maart 2019 organiseerde. Dit initiatief zal samen met drie andere geselecteerde voorstellen over de vraag hoe nieuwe technologieën en sociale media de deelname aan de EU-verkiezingen kunnen vergroten, aan het Europees Parlement worden toegezonden.
