The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Neseniai priimtoje nuomonėje EESRK pareiškė, kad norint pasiekti 2050 m. ES energetikos ir klimato tikslus, reikia daug spartesnės pertvarkos kuriant energetikos sąjungą, tačiau perspėjo, jog pavojinga nepaisyti socialinės ir ekonominės situacijos atskirose valstybėse narėse.
Komiteto teigimu, jeigu nebus atsižvelgta į socialines ir ekonomines sąlygas skirtingose valstybėse narėse, visuomenei gali būti sunku pritarti investicijoms ir reformoms, kuriomis skatinama energetikos pertvarka.
Lutz Ribbe parengtoje ir kovo mėn. plenarinėje sesijoje priimtoje nuomonėje EESRK išdėstė savo poziciją dėl 2020 m. energetikos sąjungos būklės ataskaitų ir nacionalinių energetikos ir klimato srities veiksmų planų vertinimo, sakydamas, kad nors 2020 m. energetikos ir klimato srities tikslai iš esmės buvo įgyvendinti, tai negali kelti pasitenkinimo.
Ateinančių 30 metų, pradedant 2020-aisiais, tikslai turi būti daug platesnio užmojo ir energetikos sąjungoje didžiausias dėmesys iš tiesų turi būti skiriamas piliečiams.
L. Ribbe pareiškė: „Energetikos pertvarkai pavojų keltų tai, jeigu politikai žadėtų, kad joje galės dalyvauti didelė visuomenės dalis, tačiau iš tikrųjų rimtai nevertintų šio pažado ir jo netesėtų.“ (mp)
