The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Lai sasniegtu 2050. gadam noteiktos enerģētikas un klimata mērķus, ir būtiski jākāpina temps, kādā notiek virzība uz enerģētikas savienību, tomēr, kā EESK norāda vienā no jaunākajiem atzinumiem, būtu bīstami atstāt bez ievērības stāvokli atsevišķās dalībvalstīs.
EESK uzsver, ka tad, ja netiktu ņemti vērā dažādu dalībvalstu sociālie un ekonomiskie apstākļi, sabiedrība varētu nepieņemt ieguldījumus un reformas, kas vērstas uz enerģētikas pārkārtošanu.
Atzinumā, kuru sagatavojis Lutz Ribbe un kurš tika pieņemts marta plenārsesijā, EESK atklāj, kā tā vērtē 2020. gada ziņojumu par enerģētikas savienības stāvokli un nacionālo enerģētikas un klimata plānu novērtējumu. Viņš norāda, ka, neraugoties uz 2020. gadam noteikto enerģētikas un klimata mērķu sasniegšanu, nedrīkst ļauties pašapmierinātībai.
Jau 2020. gadā sākās nākamais 30 gadu posms, kurā ir jāuzstāda vēl daudz augstāki mērķi, un cilvēki tiešām ir jāliek enerģētikas savienības uzmanības centrā.
Ribbe norādīja: "Enerģētikas pārkārtošana ir apdraudēta arī tad, ja politiķi apsola, ka plašas sabiedrības grupas varēs līdzdarboties, taču patiesībā šo solījumu neuztver nopietni un to nepilda." (mp)
