The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.

V EU platí jedny z nejpřísnějších předpisů na světě, jež upravují používání přípravků na ochranu rostlin (POR neboli pesticidů) v zemědělství. Je však možné učinit mnohem více pro lepší sbližování právních předpisů, aby se snížila rizika spojená s používáním přípravků na ochranu rostlin a aby bylo možné stále rostoucí světové populaci zaručit zdravé a bezpečné potraviny.
EHSV přijal na toto téma informační zprávu, jíž přispěl k hodnocení směrnice 2009/128/ES o udržitelném používání pesticidů, které provádí Komise.
Po více než deseti letech provádění této směrnice je nezbytné posoudit, zda plní svůj účel.
Ačkoli bylo v oblasti zacházení a nakládání s pesticidy dosaženo významného pokroku, hlavní překážkou pro to, aby byly pesticidy používány optimálním způsobem, zůstávají nedostatečné znalosti.
Slabinou směrnice o udržitelném používání pesticidů je také monitorování a prosazování předpisů i neexistence účinných sankcí pro členské státy, které předpisy nedodržují.
Ačkoli jsou evropští zemědělci i nadále pevně odhodláni přejít na udržitelnější zemědělské postupy, shodují se však také na tom, že chybí alternativní řešení a nové technologie, které by byly dostatečně nákladově efektivní, a zajistily tak nejvhodnější péči o plodiny.
„Musíme zaujmout ucelený a ambiciózní přístup, abychom vytvořili legislativní rámec, který by nám umožnil řešit používání pesticidů soudržným, důsledným a vědeckým způsobem,“ zdůraznil zpravodaj EHSV José Manuel Roche Ramo. (mr)
