EU ima na področju uporabe fitofarmacevtskih sredstev (FFS ali pesticidov) v kmetijstvu eno najstrožjih ureditev na svetu. Toda storiti je mogoče še veliko več, da se izboljša skladnost predpisov, zmanjšajo tveganja pri uporabi teh sredstev ter zagotovi preskrba z zdravo in varno hrano za hitro rastoče svetovno prebivalstvo.
EESO je kot prispevek k oceni Direktive 2009/128/EC o trajnostni rabi pesticidov, ki jo je izvedla Komisija, o tej temi sprejel informativno poročilo.
Več kot 10 let po začetku izvajanje direktive je nujno oceniti, ali služi svojemu namenu.
Pri ravnanju s pesticidi in njihovi obdelavi je bil sicer dosežen precejšnji napredek, vendar je pomanjkanje ustreznega znanja še vedno ena glavnih ovir za optimalno uporabo teh snovi.
Slabost direktive so tudi spremljanje in izvrševanje zakonodaje ter pomanjkanje učinkovitih sankcij za države članice, ki ne ravnajo v skladu s predpisi.
Čeprav se evropski kmetje močno zavzemajo za bolj trajnostne kmetijske prakse, pa vlada splošno soglasje, da ni dovolj alternativnih rešitev in novih tehnologij, ki bi bile dovolj stroškovno učinkovite za optimalno vzdrževanje poljščin.
„Potrebujemo celosten in ambiciozen pristop, da bi ustvarili zakonodajni okvir, ki nam bo omogočal skladno, dosledno in na znanstvenih dokazih temelječo obravnavo uporabe pesticidov,“ je poudaril poročevalec EESO José Manuel Roche Ramo. (mr)
