European citizens should be both vigilant and engaged
At a crucial time in Europe and in the world, Sustainable Democracy in Europe was this year's topic at the Civil Society Days, organised by the Liaison Group at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) on 12 and 13 June 2019.
De acordo com o novo estudo encomendado pelo Comité Económico e Social Europeu, os serviços transfronteiriços criam novos postos de trabalho e crescimento económico, sendo positivos para todos os países da UE e para diferentes tipos de postos de trabalho – tanto os de utilização intensiva de mão de obra como os de utilização intensiva de conhecimentos. O referido documento demonstra que é benéfico para a economia da UE evitar uma regulamentação estrita do mercado interno dos serviços transfronteiriços.
Abertura das candidaturas para a edição de 2019
O Comité Económico e Social Europeu (CESE) anuncia a abertura das candidaturas para o seu Prémio para a Sociedade Civil de 2019. O prémio, que este ano tem como tema «Mais mulheres na sociedade e na economia europeias», recompensará iniciativas e projetos inovadores que lutem pela igualdade de oportunidades e de tratamento entre mulheres e homens em todas as esferas da vida económica e social.
The 25th anniversary of the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement, in force since 1994, was the main topic of the EEA Consultative Committee meeting that took place on 23 and 24 May. This committee, which represents employers, workers and other civil society players of EEA member states, insisted on the importance of completing the internal market and taking into account its social dimension.
On 10 May, candidates from the main parties running for the European Parliament (EP) elections took part in a round table debate organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Madrid. They were in favour of initiating a reform of the EU institutions with the aim, amongst other things, of enabling organised civil society to play a greater role in the building of Europe.

Young Europeans think that belonging to the EU benefits them directly and are keen to learn other languages, explore other cultures, and have friends of other EU nationalities. These are just the first results of a study on "Youngsters and the EU - Perceptions, Knowledge and Expectations", which the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and its Diversity Europe Group presented at a major event in Brussels on 15 May 2019.
The 7th edition of the Western Balkans Civil Society Forum, which took place in Tirana on 16 and 17 April, concluded with a call for the next Commission to maintain the Western Balkans enlargement policy as one of its priorities in the interest of both the region and of the EU.
