  • At its December 2025 plenary session, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted an opinion supporting the European Commission’s proposals for the AgoraEU and Justice programmes for 2028–2034. The EESC calls for robust support for civil society, enhanced democratic participation, and a stronger European Area of Justice, in the pursuit of a free and democratic Europe.

  • Across a wide range of issues, including employment, pension systems, climate change, health and care services, and political participation, both younger and older generations feel inadequately represented in the current policy responses. This is contributing to growing political disillusionment and jeopardising the cohesion of European societies.

    The EESC FRRL Group's annual conference will provide a platform for debate of the European Commission's third Report on the Rule of Law (July 2022), which for the first time entails country specific recommendations.

    It will gather EESC Members, civil society representatives (including social partners), EU institutions and other stakeholders to discuss the main developments in the EU in the area of fundamental rights and the rule of law over the past year.

    On the occasion of the conference, the FRRL Group will issue its second synthesis report covering the visits carried out in 2020-2021.

  • In order to prepare its opinion on the Commission proposal for a directive on combating violence against women and domestic violence, the EESC is organising a hybrid public hearing on 21 April 2022 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.

    The aim of the event is to gather input from civil society, including social partners and academia as well other EU Institutions and international organisations.

  • In order to prepare its opinion on the proposals by the European Commission on the European Drugs Agency, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 9 March 2022 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.

    The aim of the event is to discuss the proposal and gather input from other EU Institutions, international organisations and civil society, which will feed into the EESC's opinion.

    The conference "The Anti-Money Laundering Legislative Package" will take stock of the state of play and debate in particular the legislative proposals tabled by the European Commission in July 2021 to strengthen the EU's anti-money laundering and countering terrorism financing (AML/CFT) rules.
