In order to prepare an exploratory opinion requested by the Swedish presidency, the EESC is organising a virtual public hearing on ''Competence and skills development in the green and digital transition'' on 17 February 2023.

Working life is transforming due to the accelerating digital transformation, automation, and transition to climate neutrality. The event will be looking at the competences and skills that will be needed in view of this transition, contributing to the debate in view of the European Year of Skills.

How the EU can push back against resource depletion

This public event will assess the extent of the EU's current ecological overshoot and look into proposals from organised civil society to push back against resource depletion and present some best practices and initiatives to reduce the EU's ecological footprint.

The EESC is organising a remote public hearing on the revision of the anti-trafficking directive. The input will feed into the its opinion on the issue.

The current directive has been implemented in a fractured manner across the EU as employers and users of the services of trafficked people face different legal consequences. Also, perpetrators continue to act with impunity since prosecution and convictions remain. Therefore, a revision of the directive is necessary.

By including perspectives from policy makers and civil society, the event will explore strengths and shortcomings of the revision.  


In order to prepare the exploratory opinion requested by the future Spanish presidency of the EU on "Precarious work and mental health", the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 14 February 2023 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.

The aim of the event is to gather input on the from policy makers, civil society organisations and social partners, which will feed into the EESC's opinion.

On 13 February 2023 the Section for Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and the Information Society (TEN) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) hosted an online public hearing in the context of its ongoing exploratory opinion at the request of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU on Wooden construction for CO2 reduction in building sector. The opinion is focusing on the following issues: How can the EU proposals such as Sustainable carbon cycles, the EU's bioeconomy strategy and the New European Bauhaus be used to drastically reduce the large construction-related CO2 emissions, store CO2 and make construction more efficient? 


The Commission and the High Representative adopted in October 2022 the Joint communication Youth Action Plan in the European Union external action for 2022-2027, the first-ever policy framework for a strategic partnership with young people around the world to build a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable future. It will help deliver on international commitments, such as the United Nation's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Climate Agreement, by enhancing meaningful youth participation and empowerment in the EU's external action policies.


The hearing will deal with issues such as the regulatory changes for workers' participation required to adapt to new working and production environments, the representative basis, roles and capacity of European Works Councils, strengthening collective action, the impact of new supervision, organisation and decision-making technology on democratic values, including political participation and fundamental rights at work, and  the contribution of the participation of workers in management and decision-making in companies to a just green transition.
