SLOVAKIA: Support for KOZ SR Protest Against Unfair Consolidation Burden

On behalf of the Workers’ Group at the European Economic and Social Committee, I want to express our full support with the Slovak workers and the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic (KOZ SR), who will take to the streets on 30 September in Bratislava to protest against the unfair consolidation package imposed by the Slovak Government.

Once again, workers are being asked to shoulder the heaviest burden of budgetary cuts, while genuine social dialogue is disregarded. Freezing wages of public and municipal employees, increasing health insurance contributions by one percentage point, interfering with working hours on public holiday and restricting unemployment benefits will only worsen the living standards of Slovak workers and their families.

We fully support KOZ SR and Slovak workers in their fight for fairness, social dialogue, and the protection of labour rights. We join their call that workers must not be forced to repeatedly bear the heaviest burden of government decisions.

In solidarity,

Lucie Studničná

President of the EESC Workers’ Group
