Στον απόηχο των πρόσφατων τραπεζικών κρίσεων στις ΗΠΑ και της υπόθεσης της Credit Suisse, η ΕΟΚΕ επανεξέτασε την πρόταση της Επιτροπής για μεταρρύθμιση του πλαισίου για τη διαχείριση κρίσεων και την ασφάλιση των καταθέσεων (CMDI). Μεταξύ άλλων μέτρων, η ΕΟΚΕ ζητεί την προστασία των συμφερόντων των μικρότερων και τοπικών τραπεζών, των καταθετών και των φορολογουμένων, καθώς και τον συντονισμό της δέσμης CMDI με τη μελλοντική μεταρρύθμιση του κανονισμού για τις κρατικές ενισχύσεις.
Η ισπανική κυβέρνηση ήταν εκείνη που ζήτησε από την ΕΟΚΕ να εξετάσει το ζήτημα και να υποβάλει συστάσεις πολιτικής στους συννομοθέτες και στην ισπανική Προεδρία του Συμβουλίου της ΕΕ. Η πρόταση της Επιτροπής για μεταρρύθμιση του CMDI αποσκοπεί στην αντιμετώπιση των κινδύνων που εξακολουθούν να ελλοχεύουν στον ευρωπαϊκό τραπεζικό τομέα, προωθώντας περαιτέρω την ολοκλήρωση της Τραπεζικής Ένωσης και ενισχύοντας την ενιαία αγορά της ΕΕ προς το συμφέρον των καταθετών και των φορολογουμένων.
«Η ΕΟΚΕ αναγνωρίζει τη σημασία της ταχύτητας, της ευελιξίας και της συνεργασίας για την αντιμετώπιση τραπεζικών κρίσεων, με παράλληλη προστασία των καταθετών και των φορολογούμενων», σχολίασε ο εισηγητής της ΕΟΚΕ Giuseppe Guerini. «Η πρόταση της Επιτροπής αποτελεί ένα βήμα προς την ολοκλήρωση της Τραπεζικής Ένωσης, η οποία είναι καίριας σημασίας για την επίτευξη πλήρους εξυγίανσης του χρηματοπιστωτικού συστήματος της ΕΕ και για τη μείωση του κατακερματισμού της αγοράς».
Στη γνωμοδότησή της, η ΕΟΚΕ επιμένει ότι η εναρμόνιση της προστασίας των καταθέσεων και η αξιολόγηση εναλλακτικών λύσεων για την εξυγίανση και τη διαδικασία αφερεγγυότητα είναι καίριας σημασίας για την προστασία των συμφερόντων των καταθετών και τη διατήρηση του ποικιλόμορφου ευρωπαϊκού τραπεζικού οικοσυστήματος.
