Prospects for the European economy in times of crisis

Both the COVID-19 crisis and the war in Ukraine has had a profound and, in many aspects, devastating impacts on the European economy and society. These crises revealed significant vulnerabilities and structural differences in and among the Member States. The war in Ukraine aggravated pre-existing headwinds to growth and made the need for the green transition to succeed ever more urgent. While Europe is advancing its decarbonisation agenda and stepping up its efforts to enhance Europe's strategic and technological autonomy, the conflict currently poses dramatic challenges to the EU economies. Low-growth prospects together with inflation at record-high levels pose new dilemmas for economic policy makers in the EU.

In this context of a constantly evolving economic environment and high uncertainty, the ECO section organises a conference to have an open and inclusive debate with policy-makers, civil society representatives and economic researchers to inform and influence the economic policy debates at EU and national levels on Wednesday, 5 October 2022 from 14:30 to 18:00.

The event will be webstreamed (original, EN, FR, DE). No registration is needed and participation is free of charge.
