    EESK inledde sitt arbete med den blå given i januari 2023, och det officiella lanseringsevenemanget, ”Dags för en blå giv för EU”, hölls i februari 2023. I september 2023 fick initiativet politisk fart i och med en gemensam uppmaning från EESK och Europaparlamentet i form av en skrivelse till EU:s stats- och regeringschefer, där medlemsstaterna uppmanades att stödja och anta en ambitiös blå giv för EU.
