The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

Stark tonvikt på EU:s återhämtning, hälsounionen och digitalisering, tydlig ställning för att försvara rättsstaten och fokus på EU:s framtid: EESK välkomnar dessa aspekter av årets tal om tillståndet i unionen, som står i samklang med dess prioriteringar.
EESK fortsätter att prioritera genomförandet av de reformer som fastställs i de nationella planerna för återhämtning och resiliens, med beaktande av vad arbetsgivare, arbetstagare och det civila samhället i stort behöver.
”Att omsätta dessa reformer i handling är bara möjligt med full medverkan av det organiserade civila samhället”, sade EESK:s ordförande Christa Schweng.
Den snabba forskningen om samt tillgängligheten och distributionen av vacciner mot covid-19 visade att EU levererar. En verklig hälsounion, som kommissionens ordförande Ursula von der Leyen lyfte fram, är en av de främsta prioriteringarna under EESK:s innevarande mandatperiod.
När det gäller investeringar i framtida teknik betonar EESK att EU måste utveckla sin egen vision och strategi för digital suveränitet, samtidigt som man bevarar öppenheten för frihandel och stöder det multilaterala systemet.
Christa Schweng välkomnar likaså kommissionens fasta ståndpunkt vad gäller rättsstaten. Vi måste försvara de europeiska värdena.
Huruvida EU:s ekonomiska och sociala modell lyckas i framtiden beror enligt EESK i hög grad på vår förmåga att samarbeta och knyta kontakter med resten av världen, från våra närmaste grannar såsom västra Balkan till andra geopolitiska strategiska partner. (at)
