The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

EU behöver genomföra effektiva och brådskande åtgärder för att minska utsläppen och ta itu med klimatförändringarna. Det paket för hållbar finansiering som kommissionen lagt fram kan fastställa en tydlig, sammanhängande och övergripande ram för detta, inom vilken en grönare ekonomi kan utvecklas utan inlåsningseffekter.
I det yttrande som antogs vid plenarsessionen i september och som utarbetats av Stefan Back ställer sig kommittén till fullo bakom kommissionens förslag till åtgärder i syfte att fastställa standarder för definitionen av ”hållbar ekonomisk verksamhet”, men påpekar att vissa inslag kan visa sig bli en komplex och kostsam utmaning, särskilt för små och medelstora företag.
EESK framhåller att det är viktigt att tydligt fastställa tekniska kriterier för gröna investeringar som direkt bidrar till Europas klimatmål och som de berörda affärssektorernas och den finansiella sektorns praxis kan anpassas till. Att fastställa standarder som avviker från maximikraven i EU-lagstiftningen kan skapa förvirring, och EESK rekommenderar därför att dessa krav stärks.
”Kommissionens åtgärdspaket syftar till att ge investerare möjlighet att omorientera sina investeringar mot mer hållbara teknikformer och företag. Vi behöver effektiva, innovativa och produktiva verktyg som är lätta att tillämpa och som ger snabba och tydliga resultat. Bedömningen av den delegerade förordningen om taxonomin för hållbar finansiering bör utföras i denna anda”, betonar Stefan Back. (mp)
