Nové dane a ďalšie opatrenia na zníženie emisií CO2 pomôžu, ale nebudú stačiť: globálne otepľovanie bude pravdepodobne pokračovať, kým sa doterajšie emisie tohto plynu neodstránia z atmosféry V stanovisku, ktoré pripravil Krister Andersson a bolo prijaté na júlovom plenárnom zasadnutí, výbor zdôrazňuje, že je potrebný nový systém. V ňom sa budú emisie CO2 zdaňovať, aby sa im zabránilo, ale zároveň bude možné odstraňovať, ukladať a ďalej využívať látky z emisií, ktoré sa už dostali do atmosféry.
Vo svojom komentári počas plenárneho zasadnutia pán Andersson uviedol, že „na dosiahnutie európskych cieľov klimatickej neutrality je dôležité využívať zdaňovanie, ale potrebné sú aj ďalšie nástroje. Účinné by bolo, keby sme boli schopní znížiť emisie CO2, ale zároveň ho aj odstrániť z atmosféry. Žiadame preto symetrický zdaňovací prístup založený na tejto stratégii: príjmy z daní z CO2 by sa mohli použiť na zaplatenie činností, ktorými sa tento plyn odstraňuje z atmosféry“.
EHSV odporúča rozvíjať účelovými investíciami na úrovni EÚ a členských štátov aj technológie zachytávania a ukladania oxidu uhličitého (CCS) a zachytávania a využívania oxidu uhličitého (CCU). Tieto opatrenia by boli ďalším krokom k zníženiu vplyvu emisií CO2, a tým aj k dosiahnutiu cieľov udržateľného rozvoja presadzovaných OSN a cieľov Parížskej dohody o zmene klímy. (mp)
