EESC contributions to the European tourism policy

Tourism therefore plays a crucial role in achieving the Union’s most important goals, such as sustainable development, economic growth, employment and economic and social cohesion. Moreover, this sector influences many other areas such as transport, culture, construction and the environment and involves a wide range of services and professions. It is also very important in terms of the job opportunities it offers to young people. There are twice as many young people working in this sector than in the rest of the economy. Tourism thus also helps with regional economic development and promoting European heritage. The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) supports the notion of attractive, competitive, sustainable and responsible European tourism and has regularly highlighted the cross-cutting and complex nature of this sector.
