Challenging times ahead of the EESC and the Liaison Group: a European recovery with civil society at its heart
As the EESC starts its new term in the middle of a world health crisis, it is both a challenge and an honour to be elected co-chair of the Liaison Group (LG) of European civil society member organisations (CSOs). I see this as recognition of my long-lasting commitment to the European project, especially the cause of strengthening citizens' voice, and I thank all my CSO colleagues for the trust they have placed in me. There will also be a new EESC co-chair of the LG as the Committee begins its next term. At a time of ongoing crisis in our democracy, I welcome the opportunity to work with a strong woman as EESC president, Christa Schweng. Congratulations on your election and I look forward to having you as co-chair of the LG: together we will strengthen the role of civil society, which has never been so vital for Europe.
