The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Sausio mėn. plenarinėje sesijoje priimtoje naujoje nuomonėje EESRK nurodė, kad glaudesnis tarptautinis bendradarbiavimas yra labai svarbus siekiant, kad iki 2030 m. vandenynai taptų tvarūs ir būtų užtikrintas saugumas ir sauga jūroje.
Vandenynų valdymas yra sudėtingas, todėl jo nereikėtų laikyti tik su jūromis susijusiu reikalu: turi būti laikomasi daugiadalykio ir integruoto požiūrio siekiant paremti priimančiuosius sprendimus visais lygmenimis.
Žmogaus poveikis vandenynams dažnai susijęs su sausumoje vykdoma veikla. Didelė jūrų taršos dalis atsiranda dėl atliekų, pesticidų, antibiotikų, fosfatų ir plastikų išmetimo, jau nekalbant apie nesprogusių standartinių sprogmenų problemą.
EESRK nuomone, ES, kaip teisės aktų leidėjos ir kaip tarptautinės veikėjos, stiprinančios tinklus ir partnerystes, vaidmuo yra labai svarbus, todėl įvairūs suinteresuotieji subjektai turėtų veiksmingai ir skaidriai dalyvauti visuose veiksmuose.
„ES tenka pagrindinis vaidmuo remiant vandenynus, tačiau visos šalys turi atlikti savo vaidmenį: tik taip naujos kartos vis dar galės mūsų planetą vadinti mėlynąja planeta“, – sakė nuomonės pranešėjas Stefano Palmieri.
ES, norėdama iki 2050 m. pasiekti anglies dioksido poveikio neutralumą ir iki 2030 m. užtikrinti tvarumą, turėtų sutelkti dėmesį į tai, kad būtų imamasi priemonių, kuriomis būtų apsaugota jūrų aplinkos gerovė ir žuvų ištekliai, kurie yra gyvybiškai svarbūs daugeliui bendruomenių. (mp)
