Following up on the own-initiative opinion on “Blue Diplomacy and Water cooperation: solutions to relieve the pressure of climate induced migration” the REX section received from the Commission a request to elaborate an exploratory opinion on "Water diplomacy in action: restoring the global hydrological cycle".
This opinion intends to discuss the relationship between water resilience, digitalisation and the green transition. It aims to propose recommendations to address the different challenges involving water, digitalisation and decarbonisation from an industrial perspective.

All industries rely on water. Anticipating future risks related to water scarcity as well as quality and increasing pricing of water is vital for industries, particularly for water-intensive sectors. Many industries are increasingly facing the pressure to progressively adopt more water-efficient production processes and reduce their environmental impact.
