  • The 16th meeting of the EU Advisory Group for the EU-Central America Association Agreement took place on 19 December 2019 in Brussels. Please click on the programme tab to consult the topics on the agenda.

    As in previous years, the EESC was present at the yearly Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP25, which took place in Madrid, Spain, from 2-14 December 2019.

    Wednesday 11 December: debates on opinions on disability rights, unemployment insurance, human rights and business, populism and fundamental rights, taxation and the sustainable development goals, use-value of European products and services.  – Thursday, 12 December: Debate on the theme From development to partnership and 2019 Civil Society Prize awards ceremony at 11 a.m.

  • This event will provide examples of circular economy (CE) good practices and a forum for discussion to help CE practitioners deal with challenges they come up against. It will demonstrate solutions from industry to tackle climate change, and show examples of approaches to Circular Economy taken at a company level.

  • At this event, different stakeholders will discuss the need of a fair and just transition and a European Green Deal that leave no one behind. This transition means that the most vulnerable members of society, as well as regions and territories that are in the need of special consideration, have to be involved in decision-making. These aspects will be addressed by the panellists in an interactive discussion.

  • During the meeting, the EU DAG will discuss the progress achieved by both Parties to the Agreement concerning the ILO Core Conventions as well as the next steps in their ratification and effective implementation. The EU DAG also will exchange information about the role of civil society in the EU and the Republic of Korea with a representative of the European Commission.

  • During the meeting, the members of the Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) of the EU composed of representatives of employers' organisations, trade unions and various interest group will discuss the mandate of the EU DAG, working methods, reporting procedures and cooperation with other civil society organisations, as well as will exchange views on its rules of procedure. The chair and vice-chairs will also be elected. Additionally, the members of the EU DAG will exchange views with representatives of the European Commission on matters related to the implementation of the trade and sustainable development title of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

  • Extraordinary Group meeting of the Diversity Europe Group

    On 6 December, the Diversity Europe Group organised its Extraordinary group, entitled Agenda for Europe: towards 2025

    The debate was opened by the President of the group Arno Metzler and by Mr Ribbe who is rapporteur of the resolution 'The EESC's contribution to the Commission's 2020 work programme and beyond'. 

    The session was dedicated to an exchange of views on the priorities of the new European Commission and to a discussion on the challenges in the next five years. It was an opportunity to hear the views of different Directorates-General and to launch a discussion on how civil society can bring added value

  • The European Economic and Social Committee will hold a conference on "Social housing: a service of general interest to guarantee decent, energy efficient and affordable accommodation for all?" that will take place on 4 December 2019 at 10.00 am dedicated to testimonies and debates on the theme of the current housing crisis in the European Union.
