Fit for 55: delivering the EU's 2030 Climate Target on the way to climate neutrality

Fit for 55 - Public hearing
Context

The revisions and initiatives linked to the European Green Deal and, in particular, the EU's ambitious target of a 55% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030 are presented under the first series of files of the "Fit for 55" package adopted by the European Commission.

It consists of a set of inter-connected proposals, which all drive towards the same goal of ensuring a fair, competitive and green transition by 2030 and beyond.

The package strengthens eight existing pieces of legislation and presents five new initiatives, across a range of policy areas and economic sectors:

  • climate,
  • energy and fuels,
  • transport,
  • buildings,
  • land use
  • and forestry.

The chosen policy mix is a balance between pricing, targets, standards and support measures.

Scope and objectives

To feed into the European Economic and Social Committee's opinion on 'Fit for 55': delivering the EU's 2030 Climate Target on the way to climate neutrality, the NAT Section is organising an online public hearing on Friday, 7 January 2022, to gather the views of speakers and participants from organised civil society, business associations, as well as EU institutions to discuss the set of the proposals under the package with the aim to attain an overall balance between fairness, emission reductions and competitiveness.

The event will be webstreamed with interpretation in EN, DE and FR.
