The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Som svar på den statsunderstödda instrumentaliseringen av migranter vid EU:s yttre gränser anordnade EESK en konferens om frågan, där man framhöll drivkraften bakom att göra migrationspolitiken till en europeisk fråga. Hittills har auktoritära ledare utnyttjat det humanitära lidandet för att utpressa Europa, eftersom de är medvetna om klyftan i synen på migrationspolitiken på kontinenten.
Temat för konferensen var Mot en europeisering av migrationspolitiken? Lärdomar som kan dras av instrumentaliseringen av migranter och kriget i Ukraina och den anordnades i anslutning till sammanträdet i sektionen för yttre förbindelser (REX).
Det bör noteras att instrumentaliseringen av migranter från den belarusiska regimens sida inte är någon engångsföreteelse – även i Turkiet, Libyen och Marocko har det förekommit likartade ageranden.
I en kommentar till instrumentaliseringen av migranter som ett vapen i händerna på auktoritära ledare noterade Margaritis Schinas, vice ordförande med ansvar för att främja vår europeiska livsstil, att den viktigaste lärdomen som vi kan dra av vår politik är att vi kommer att förbli en måltavla om vi inte tar fram ett gemensamt migrationssystem som alla är överens om.
EESK:s ordförande Christa Schweng underströk: ”Den här flyktingkrisen har tydliggjort att migrationen påverkar alla medlemsstater. EU måste utnyttja denna drivkraft för att gå vidare med den nya migrations- och asylpakten för att få till stånd den behövliga systemförändringen i syfte att utveckla en rationell och rättighetsbaserad asyl- och migrationspolitik i EU.”
”Just nu står geopolitiken i centrum. Vi förenade våra krafter i samband med pandemin och det här kriget har exakt samma verkan bland den allmänna opinionen i Europa, vilket är viktigt”, underströk Margaritis Schinas, vice ordförande med ansvar för att främja vår europeiska livsstil. (at)
