The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Het EESC wijst in een verkennend advies op het belang van een gecoördineerde Europese wetgeving tot vaststelling van belastingtarieven voor digitaledienstenbedrijven. Dergelijke wetgeving zal zorgen voor een ondernemingsklimaat dat groei in de hand werkt en de interne markt ten goede komen, en tegelijkertijd de lacunes vermijden die het gevolg zouden zijn van afzonderlijke nationale initiatieven. In het advies dat het Comité op verzoek van het Tsjechische voorzitterschap van de Raad van de Europese Unie heeft opgesteld, staat dat nieuwe regels dubbele belastingheffing moeten voorkomen en de nalevingskosten voor bedrijven tot een minimum moeten beperken.
Hoewel de EU een leidende rol kan spelen bij het vaststellen van regels voor het belasten van de digitale economie, moet zij zich daarbij houden aan de internationale overeenkomst van de OESO/G20. Rapporteur Benjamin Rizzo: “zowel pijler 1 als pijler 2 van het Inclusief kader inzake grondslaguitholling en winstverschuiving (BEPS) van de OESO/G20 moet zo snel mogelijk ten uitvoer worden gelegd binnen de EU, om te zorgen voor een hoge mate van samenhang met de internationale overeenkomst waarover binnen de OESO/G20 zal worden onderhandeld.” Corapporteur Petru Dandea: “Een solide internationale wetgeving inzake het belasten van digitale bedrijven helpt belastingontduiking en -ontwijking te voorkomen en draagt bij aan een eerlijk, stabiel en progressief heffingssysteem.” (tk)
