Meet the Champions of excellence

"Meet the champions of excellence" is a flagship event of the European Year of Skills, jointly organized by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the European Commission.

The event highlights the value of vocational education and training (VET) as an effective learning and career path to quality jobs. Its aim is to inspire young people, notably by interacting with 35 young champions from recent WorldSkills and Euroskills competitions as well as from Abylimpics (Work Skill Olympics for people with disabilities).

It is conceived as an innovative event, involving high-level plenary sessions, four parallel workshops, stands on VET and skills demonstrations. Rather than a classic conference, the event will be an “experience” and the occasion to “see and learn” in different areas of the EESC premises and seeing skills champions in action.

Participants have the opportunity to watch demonstrations of various skills, from the traditional ones to more innovative, like robotics, virtual reality, design and 3D printing. Furthermore, almost 20 stands will allow participants to learn more about work-based learning, the European Year of Skills and the social and civil dialogue.

The audience consist of about 550 participants, including some 450 young people from across Europe (from VET and general schools as well as from youth organisations and other bodies working with NEETs), other stakeholders such as teachers, in-company trainers, as well as EESC members, European Commission representatives, EU agencies and civil society organisations.
