The European Migration Forum – the dialogue platform on migration, asylum and migrant integration – will meet for the sixth time on 27-28 October 2021. Participation in the Forum meeting is by invitation only - the call for interested organisations is now closed.

The fourth conference of the Social Innovation for Refugee Inclusion (SI4RI) builds on previous editions in 2016, 2017 and 2019. The 2021 conference will explore in particular how the diverse landscape of partnerships, social enterprises, participatory models, and community led initiatives spearheading social innovation for inclusion have fared against the backdrop of COVID 19. It will also discuss how this ecosystem can emerge strengthened from the crisis, and how innovations can reach underserved places and highly vulnerable groups.
On 19 May, the IMI Group holds a virtual conference to take stock of the situation eight months after the presentation of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum and exchange views on how to build a meaningful and functioning Pact.
Featuring speakers form the EESC and other EU institutions, international and European organisations, social partners and civil society organisations, the event will explore how to overcome the current deadlock and create convergence to turn the Pact into a tool that could deliver the systemic change needed to achieve a sound common migration and asylum policy in the EU.
As in previous years, the Bureau of the European Migration Forum has decided to organise a consultation with civil society on the topic of the next Forum. This consultation consists of a written questionnaire and a virtual meeting on 19 May.
The EESC is organising a virtual hearing on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum on 26 November 2020. The aim of the hearing is to provide an understanding of the key elements of the Pact and evaluate its impact on the European migration and asylum framework. By including perspectives from relevant institutional stakeholders, think tanks, social partners and civil society organisations, it will explore whether the Pact brings about the systemic change necessary to overcome the current deadlock and develop a sustainable, rational and rights-based EU asylum and migration policy.
In an exploratory opinion requested by the German Presidency of the Council, the EESC sets out "diversity management" measures for ensuring that migrants and ethnic minorities are better included in and integrated into the workplace and society.
The aim of this event was to illustrate the pivotal role and daily challenges of civil society organisations in helping refugees and migrants. In doing so, the Diversity Europe Group wished to re-focus political attention on the topic and to offer a forum for civil society and EU Institutions to debate these issues in the context of EU recovery and reconstruction, post Covid-19. Following the concept of a “hybrid meeting”, the conference took place both online and at the premises of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels.
The event about environmental migration aims to provide an understanding of the challenges at hand and their impact, as well as proposing policy solutions. It will present projections for climate change and how this will force people to migrate, seek to define environmental displacement, paying attention to its current occurrence and providing estimates on its future. Emphasis will be on the legal protection gap, as environmental refugees are currently not covered by any international law.
The public hearing will focus on various aspects related to social and economic inclusion of third country nationals and will feature two panel debates and a speech. The first panel will focus on social inclusion of third country nationals. It will focus on the role of public services in integrating refugees and asylum seekers and on the importance of societies being welcoming towards newcomers. In the second panel, speakers will discuss various aspects related to the importance of skills to economic integration and will address discovering, mapping and further developing talents and skills in view of finding employment.
