Europe’s cooperative banking models (revised edition)

This external study describes the situation of and prospects for cooperative banking in the European context, with reference to the models representing the sector in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy, since those countries have the largest institutions and the traditions of longest standing.

The future trends for Europe’s cooperative banking models, practical lessons derived from the experience and strategic orientations to be applied in future are set out. They are all part of the process of restructuring and of the changing understanding of the banking business, as the European financial sector enters truly uncharted waters.
