    Η Ευρωπαϊκή Οικονομική και Κοινωνική Επιτροπή (ΕΟΚΕ) διοργάνωσε το 9ο Φόρουμ της κοινωνίας των πολιτών «Δυτικά Βαλκάνια» στις 19-20 Οκτωβρίου 2023, λίγες μόλις εβδομάδες πριν από την εξαγγελία της δέσμης μέτρων της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής για τη διεύρυνση και του νέου σχεδίου ανάπτυξης. Με το φόρουμ δόθηκε νέα ώθηση στην προσπάθεια της περιοχής να προσχωρήσει στην ΕΕ, δεδομένης της τρέχουσας γεωπολιτικής κατάστασης και της σαφούς προσήλωσης των ηγετών της ΕΕ στην πολιτική διεύρυνσης. Εκπρόσωποι των οργανώσεων της κοινωνίας των πολιτών τόνισαν την ανάγκη για μεγαλύτερη στήριξη και διαφύλαξη του χώρου δράσης της κοινωνίας των πολιτών, έτσι ώστε να διευκολυνθούν οι βασικές κοινωνικοοικονομικές μεταρρυθμίσεις που απαιτούνται για την ένταξη στην ΕΕ.
