The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) organised, in its headquarters, a Public Hearing on "Limited profitability: the cornerstone of Social Economy Enterprises" in the framework of its opinion on Limited profit.
The Workers' Group is organising an event to a study on the European Labour Authority, in which concise, evidence-based recommendations are given in order to ensure that this Authority fulfils its purpose.

The year 2019 marks a new step in the life of the European Citizens' Initiative. In March, the European Parliament voted on the final text of the new ECI Regulation, which proposes a series of administrative simplifications and procedural changes to make this tool more citizen-friendly and less burdensome for the organisers. ECI Day 2019 was the first to present you with the final text of the new Regulation and explored further how it was intended to benefit active citizens wishing to influence the EU's agenda. This year, the theme of the conference was Digital Voices, reflecting the ongoing changes in the global trends in voting and citizens' active participation. Digital natives no longer wait for elections to express their preferences; they voice their concerns at all times and at every opportunity. The ECI Day explored these new digital trends in the particular context of the European elections.

During the energy transition towards the low-emission economy, the EU energy system faces a period of profound technological, economic and social change that will affect many of the energy sectors, including the coal industry and hence the coal-mining regions of the EU. However, the currently active coal-mining regions have to prepare for the phasing-out of coal production to be in line with EU energy and climate policy decisions on fossil fuel use or for economic reasons.
In November 2017, the EU institutions announced that the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) would be an important tool for promoting upwards convergence, in both economic and social terms. The EESC is now starting to evaluate the implementation of this initiative.
To kick off this process, a public hearing will be held in the afternoon of Thursday 28 March at the EESC, to assess the legislative and non-legislative measures taken, identify gaps and propose new measures, including in the context of the European Semester.

The European Economic and Social Committee organized with the distrettourbano del commercio of Como a hearing as part of its follow-up work on its opinion on ''A European retail sector fit for the 21st century'', which was adopted in December 2018. The event took place on March 28 2019 in Como, Italy. It is part of a series of follow-up hearings to be held in several EU Member States.
The main objective of the hearing was to discuss the effectiveness and efficiency of EU retail policies and to collect valuable input and feedback from Italian stakeholders on the issue in order to find ways to improve these policies. Particular emphasis was placed on the recommendations presented in the EESC opinion with a view to their implementation at national level.
On 27 March 2019, the EESC organised its 21st edition of the European Consumer Day in Brussels. With young consumers at the heart of the programme, and the trends in consumption patterns driven by technology, we were talking about the role played by young people in this change and how they can influence the policy that affects them directly. Three key sectors for young people were the subject of participatory workshops to discuss issues and opportunities in mobility, food and clothing. A live debate also was held on the influence of social media on young people.
Representatives of the European and Georgian Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs), set up under the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Georgia, held their fourth joint meeting in Brussels on 26 March 2019. The participants followed-up on the implementation of the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter of the Association Agreement.
