The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Pripravila skupina organizacij civilne družbe v EESO
Evropska civilna družba je 24. januarja poslala odprto pismo predsednicama Evropske komisije in Evropskega parlamenta ter belgijskemu predsedstvu Sveta Evropske unije. Podpisniki pisma pozivajo vse tri glavne institucije Evropske unije, ki sodelujejo pri odločanju na ravni EU, naj sprejmejo konkretne ukrepe za odprt, pregleden in reden dialog z organizacijami civilne družbe na vseh področjih politike, kot določa člen 11 Pogodbe o Evropski uniji.
Pobuda za odprto pismo je prišla iz skupine organizacij civilne družbe v EESO in organizacije Civil Society Europe ter vsebuje konkretne predloge za izvajanje. Pismo je podprlo 156 podpisnikov iz 26 držav članic, med katerimi je 39 evropskih mrež, 85 nacionalnih organizacij ter 60 članov skupine organizacij civilne družbe v EESO.
Civilni dialog je v institucijah EU kljub zakonskim določbam še vedno nereden in nestrukturiran. Zato podpisniki odprtega pisma za civilni dialog v EU (#EUCivilDialogueNow) pozivajo institucije EU, naj:
Pri tem naj izhajajo iz priporočil Konference o prihodnosti Evrope. Kot prvi korak podpisniki Evropski komisiji predlagajo, naj pripravi sporočilo o krepitvi civilnega dialoga na ravni EU.
