The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Welkom bij Hoe kijkt de burger ertegenaan, de podcast van het Europees Economisch en Sociaal Comité. In deze aflevering duiken we in de komende COP28 in Dubai, waar de wereld samenkomt om het dringende probleem van de klimaatverandering aan te pakken. Verhelderende standpunten komen van: klimaatjournalist Anna Gumbau, jongerenafgevaardigde van het EESC Diandra Ní Bhuachalla, oprichter en CEO van Sustainable Public Affairs Willem Vriesendorp en Jule Könneke van het Deutsches Institut für Internationale Politik und Sicherheit.
We beginnen met Anna Gumbau’s perspectief op de omstreden keuze voor Dubai als locatie en gaan in op de uitdagingen waarmee journalisten worden geconfronteerd bij het verslaan van zulke belangrijke evenementen. Diandra Ní Bhuachalla laat haar licht schijnen over de urgentie van de bijdrage van jongeren aan klimaatdebatten en deelt de hoop op een non-proliferatieverdrag voor fossiele brandstoffen. Willem Vriesendorp benadrukt dat bedrijven het initiatief moeten nemen op het gebied van duurzaamheid, terwijl Jule Könneke de veiligheidsaspecten van het klimaatbeleid en de rol van het maatschappelijk middenveld tegen het licht houdt.
