The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

EESK apliecina, ka apņemšanās siltumnīcefekta gāzu emisijas samazināt par 55 % līdz 2030. gadam ir pareizā izvēle. Tomēr savā atzinumā “Eiropas klimatisko ieceru vēriena kāpināšana” EESK uzsver, ka procesa paātrināšanas nolūkā ir pastiprināti jāstrādā pie starpposma mērķu sasniegšanas, citādi pastāv risks 2050. gadam noteiktos mērķus nesasniegt.
Nav noslēpums, ka Covid-19 līdzi ir izraisījusi smagas ekonomikas problēmas. Tomēr EESK līdzziņotājs Jan Dirx ir uzsvēris, ka ieguldījumu pārorientācija uz atveseļošanas plānu ir pavērusi durvis jaunai stratēģijai un “atveseļošanas līdzekļi tiks tērēti arī tālejošiem klimata pasākumiem”.
EESK ziņotājs Arnold Puech d'Alissac savukārt norāda, ka “šajā atzinumā ir arī uzsvērta nepieciešamība stiprināt bioekonomiku un aizstāt fosilo kurināmo, tāpēc ir ļoti svarīgi prioritārā kārtā pilnveidot Eiropas tiesību aktus par pāreju uz atjaunojamo degvielu”.
Pašlaik ir īpaši svarīgi izmantot katru iespējamo instrumentu, lai pietuvotos klimata mērķiem: zaļo kursu, klimata tiesību aktus, daudzgadu finanšu shēmu, tostarp Next Generation EU atveseļošanas fondu, kopējo lauksaimniecības politiku, stratēģiju “No lauka līdz galdam”, bioloģiskās daudzveidības stratēģijas, tirdzniecības politiku un nolīgumus u. c. Tie būtu jāsasaista jēgpilnā veidā tā, lai, īstenojot pārkārtošanos, neviens nepaliktu ārpus uzmanības loka.
Pilsoņi ir “vissvarīgākie partneri klimata pārmaiņu apkarošanas jomā”, un bez viņiem nebūs iespējams Eiropas Savienībā veiksmīgi īstenot klimata politiku.
Tāpēc EESK ir atkārtoti ierosinājusi izveidot Eiropas klimata pakta ieinteresēto personu platformu, kuras pamatā visos līmeņos ir jābūt visu klimata jomas dalībnieku iekļautības, pārredzamības un īstas līdzdalības un piederības principam. (mr)
