At its 470th Plenary Session held on 15 and 16 March 2011, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) held a thematic debate on challenges and prospects for the Single Market Act, attended by Mr Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services and adopted by a large majority the opinion on "Towards a Single Market Act - For a highly competitive social market economy - 50 proposals for improving our work, business and exchanges with one another", rapporteurs: Ms Benedicte Federspiel (Gr. III - Various Interests, Denmark), Mr Martin Siecker (Gr. II - Employees, the Netherlands) and  Mr Ivan Voleš (Gr. I - Employers - Czech Republic).
