Conservation and enforcement measures - NAFO

EESC opinion:

Key points:

The Committee believes that it is necessary to transpose into EU law the conservation and enforcement measures adopted by NAFO, in order to in order for these measures to be uniformly and effectively applied within the EU. However, the EESC believes that the proposal lacks a flexible provision for transposing the rules adopted at NAFO, and that the issue of needing to update them annually remains unresolved. The Committee is in favour of a more flexible and simple way to transpose the rules, and therefore proposes that the regulation contain one article establishing that the European Union must apply the rules adopted by NAFO.
